News
It's a little crazy around here.
MONDAY 2 MAY
Hey Folks,
What’s been going on? Well, a shitload really... Hence the extended breaks between news updates. Let's try and make this short and sharp...
Drapht put out an album called “The Life of Riley” and it all went a bit bonkers. Completely bonkers. Lots of firsts for him, and also for us - platinum singles, number one albums, bad craziness as they say. It made things a bit silly in the office for awhile, but has been really awesome to help not only put him in a position where he has all those things happen, but he does it on his own label (The Ayems through Sony) to the beat of his own drum, so to speak. Winning...
Papa vs Pretty also recorded an album, and now it’s less than a month before it comes out. You would have heard the first taste “One of the Animals” on radio hopefully, or seen the video. It’s a pretty damn great album, and we kinda can’t wait to show it off. Speaking of videos, they shot their new one the same weekend as Drapht shot his new one, that made for an interesting weekend...
Snowman also put out an album called "Absence", kind of a posthumous release we guess. Lots of people have been going batshit over it on the internet and in the press, which is a relief as when we heard it for the first time we thought it was off its tits (in a good way!) so we are glad others agree. Those kids are sentimental faves here at Fidelity, completely uncompromising challenging music made by 4 of the nicest most enthusiastic people you could ever hope to deal with. Do yourself a favour as they say...
Downsyde and Karnivool are both working on new records, in fact Karnivool played a new song the other night which was a little bit exciting, who the hell knows what those guys will come up with next after Sound Awake, but it’s going to be pretty exciting when it happens. It might be a bit quicker than the last one too haha. They go out on tour in Australia in June, which will keep us busy as well.
In other news, Heath took on a new job because apparently one isn’t enough. He is now head of A&R for Warners, which has been exciting and fun doing something a little different and a bit challenging. It also given his manager mates lots of good excuses to heap shit on him, so everybody wins really! In order for him to be able to do that we needed to get someone in to help run things, so the newest staff member here is our new GM Kristy Pinder, who resigned from one of the most plum music and art jobs in Australia (programming music for Sydney Festival) to get back into the managers chair, and we thank her for that, as no doubt all our artists do haha!
Wasn’t that short really... But we did say a lot has been going on...

Fidelity - the not so regular update
TUESDAY 18 JANUARY
Greetings from the weird and wonderful land of band management. Yes we built a new website, and no we aren't updating it as much as we should. So here is an attempt at righting that wrong ... What better time that 1.20am on a Monday night. That's right kids, that's band management in a nutshell ...
So what's been going on? Well a brief rundown since August ...
In mid September Karnivool finished another 5 week US tour with a storming gig at the Troubadour in LA and then went home and started work on a new record, which was then rudely interrupted by a 3 week European tour through December and one of the most vicious winters Europe has seen for a while. After selling out most of the tour dates and being reduced to hand spray painting their merch beside a snow covered tour bus in Amsterdam (merch was snowed in somewhere in the UK!), they then finished the bulk of two years of touring at a sold out Scala show in London and actually managed to fly home for Christmas even though it was from Heathrow on Dec 23rd ... Google that one, haha. We are still hunting for one very nice snare drum however ... They now are in writing mode and won't be seen again until they are ready to reveal some new tunes.
Downsyde are also writing and should have a new album this year, which we are very curious to hear. They made a rare outing at Full Noise Festival along with Drapht who dropped a new single "Rapunzel" which is all over the radio stations that haven't been on our radar for years. We think it is one of the best tracks of 2010. Hopefully lots of other folks do as well and they vote in the Hottest 100, but we will see ...
Drapht's tour in Nov / Dec was sold out everywhere and he has finished his new album "The Life Of Riley" and it's stupidly good. There, we said it. You are going to hear a lot about Drapht this year and we make no apologies for that. He has his own label "The Ayems" and a new distributor and the work that has gone into this album is incredible, but it's paid off and we can't wait to get it out there. Some great collabs on the album as well, and no, Snoop will not be making an appearance ...
Snowman have finished their third full length while holed up in London and a couple of them are now holed up in Iceland which is nice for them. Our dear friend Simon at Forensic Audio is mastering the album now and we are hoping to have the album out late March which shouldn't be too hard since the artwork is done etc. Once again it sounds nothing like their last album and like their last album it's shit-your-pants good and will completely mess with peoples heads. We like that. More news on them soon ...
Last but not least, for the first time in almost 3 years Fidelity added a new act to the roster. Yes, we would like you to welcome Sydney wunderkids Papa vs Pretty to Team Fidelity. Note to young bands, if you spend more time worrying about your playing than your hair and write your own songs not variations of someone elses, you too could have a badly slept, foul-mouthed and amazingly efficient management team ... For us to start working with a band we generally have to get to the point where you just can't help yourself, you have to get involved. We first saw these guys when they launched their Heavy Harm EP at Spectrum in Sydney, and when Thomas launched into a paint shredding solo half way into the second song we were pretty much hooked, then we spent 2 months trying to talk ourselves out of it, haha. We failed and we are super happy to have them on board; they play like demons, are great people and given it's the first band that isn't from Perth that we have managed, we don't have to fly them for 5 hours to play out of their state, which Steph and Heath are not-so-secretly pretty stoked about. They are in BJB studios right now recording their debut album with Paul McKercher and it's sounding sweet!
OK, we promise to update this more often and will even get a blog up this week if Heath can find something that annoys or amuses him enough to wax lyrical!
Bless y'all!

Travels, new albums & ironic moustaches
TUESDAY 17 AUGUST
Hello folks.
An update on what's been going on in Fidelity land. Heath spent a couple of weeks overseas with Karnivool, and got to watch them play the mainstage at Sonisphere Festival in the UK and absolutely smash it in front of more people than we really expected to be there at 11.30 in the morning. No matter how big a show it is in Australia you are never going to have a castle in the backstage area, so that was an interesting experience all round! Squeezed in a meeting with Snowman in London to talk about how their new record was shaping up, tehn off to the US to see the start of Vool's first headlining tour of North America, which was nerve-racking but exciting to see that some of the hard work put in by the band over there was starting to pay off, with people turning up to the shows even in markets the band hadn't played before. Karnivool are over there for the next month, so hopefully they will make it back in one piece and get back to working on the new album!
We are excited that Snowman are well into the mixing process for their their third full-length, and what we have heard is sounding pretty sweet! You an check out a taste here, yep they are as cinematic as ever! Speaking of new albums our hip-hop wunderkind Drapht is also well into the recording process for his follow up to Brothers Grimm. We can't overstate how excited we are about this record, the roughs have been getting hammered in the office and we truly think he is coming up with some "next level shit", as cliched as that sounds! It's nice to go home at the end of the day humming new tunes from one of your artists! Stay tuned for some tastes of this album in the coming months, he is also playing Full Noise Festival in Townsville and One Movement Festival in Perth for those folks that want a live taste. Speaking of Full Noise the Downsyde guys will also be taking a break from writing to play at this show, stay tuned for more news on their upcoming album as it comes to hand!
That's it for now, we will go back to watching Katy Perry videos on YouTube and trying to work out when the current craze of cut off jeans, shit hats and ironic moustaches is going to end...
